ATLANTA -- The opening tip-off may still be more than six months away, but the new WNBA franchise in Atlanta opened the doors of Philips Arena this past Saturday and allowed its most eager fans the chance to grab the best seats in the house.

From 1:00 pm until 6:30 pm, a steady flow of Atlanta fans attended the "Meet Your Seat" event, where they were welcomed into the WNBA family and personally picked out their seats for the upcoming season. WNBA Atlanta staff was on hand to inform guests of the myriad of benefits of becoming a season ticket holder, and over 30 volunteers were placed throughout the arena to help aid in the process.

As fans approached the registration table, excited about their inaugural season in the WNBA, and still antsy about a team name, they showed their true support of the team by purchasing full season tickets. Fans entered the arena in time slots of 30 minutes to try out different seats, ask questions and eventually stake their claim by placing a red, white and blue WNBA Atlanta seat tag on the seats of their choice.

"I have been waiting for this day since the WNBA was created," said Sharon M., a new WNBA Atlanta season ticket holder, after purchasing two courtside tickets and serving as a volunteer.

The WNBA will feature 14 teams in 2008, with the Eastern and Western Conferences comprised of seven teams each. Atlanta will join the Chicago Sky, Connecticut Sun, Detroit Shock, Indiana Fever, New York Liberty and Washington Mystics in the Eastern Conference, while the Houston Comets, Los Angeles Sparks, Minnesota Lynx, Phoenix Mercury, Sacramento Monarchs, San Antonio Silver Stars and Seattle Storm will continue to comprise the Western Conference.
