"It's frustrating. People come in this building now and they expect to
win on our home court. That's unacceptable. I know there was an extreme amount
of confidence in this room to get it done at home. I don't think that it's any
kind of complacency. We just want to get that monkey off of our back. It's not
going our way at home so we're going to have to dig down and find a way to get
it done on the road tomorrow. We have to have some people lay it out on the
line."
• Katie Douglas reacts after Connecticut loses its fifth consecutive home game
to the Mystics 91-75.
"Our joke is that we are going back to Houston for a replay. We are very,
very, very, very blessed to come off a road trip like this after the start that
we got off to. We are showing the league that we are competing and the teams
will be ready for us."
• Washington interim coach Tree Rollins expresses his excitement about the Mystics' 3-1 road trip, during which their only
loss came to Houston.
"That's been all season for me. I'm a second half player for some reason.
My teammates did an unbelievable job keeping it going in the first half and
the bench played an unbelievable game. I guess I just step up and know it's
my time in the second half and I step up to the challenge."
• Alana Beard, on scoring 16 points in the second half of the Mystics 91-75 win
over the Connecticut Sun, after only scoring four points in the first half.
"They had (about) 30 turnovers and that shows how much we were pressuring
them and really forcing their turnovers. It wasn't like they were throwing the
ball away on their own, we were forcing them and it gives credit to our defense
because defense wins the games."
• Mistie Williams discusses how Houston's defensive play helped them to defeat
San Antonio 75-67.
"We had some slip-ups at the end, [Connecticut] had a seven-point possession
that got them back in the game, but we were able to pull it out."
• Detroit Shock guard Deanna Nolan on defeating the Sun 77-74, despite a fourth
quarter seven-point possession that brought Connecticut back into the game.
"I don't know if we could have played better or more together than we did
last night. I was so impressed by the focus and the will we had to
get that win."
• Seattle coach Anne Donovan comments on the Storm's win over the Sparks, to the
Seattle Post Intelligencer.
"Marta's been great for us… She's very deceptively quick. Her rhythm
is not the type of rhythm that Americans are used to looking at."
• Sparks coach Michael Cooper on the impact of Spanish import Marta Fernandez after she scored a career high 26 points to help Los Angeles top Sacramento 74-64, to the Associated Press.
"They did what they had to do. We're going to move forward from here. The
team is going to move forward. I'm going to move forward."
• Diana Taurasi reacts to her two-game suspension for inappropriate conduct toward
game officials (received in loss against Detroit) to the Arizona Republic.
"I thought it was sloppy on both sides. There were a lot of turnovers.
They're a great team, they had some great plays and they exploited some of our
weaknesses. They took advantage of us early and we couldn't dig out of the hole."
• Liberty center Janel McCarville reacts to a 59-49 loss to the
Monarchs.
"The last two games have been difficult for us, Cappie Pondexter just coming
back and obviously without Diana there has been a need for everyone to step
up and I think everyone did tonight."
• Penny Taylor on her team's 92-75 win against Houston, despite the absence of
Diana Taurasi.
"It's a painful loss. I felt, despite this being our fifth game in seven
nights and with Yo [Griffith] down, I thought we showed a lot of heart. I felt
that we played hard and played well enough to win it. I think we did a lot of
things well. They had some huge shots and Jia Perkins put on a show. They played
really well, we just didn't have enough to go two overtimes."
•Monarchs coach Jenny Boucek on her team's double overtime loss to the
Sky.
"(We) made too many turnovers and had to overcome a 23-11 (deficit) at the free throw
line. We didn't play particularly well, but we had an opportunity to win and
we got up early. I give credit to Connecticut. They hung in there and got rolling
a little bit and came back. It's a good win for them and not a good loss for
us."
•Indiana coach Brian Winters reacts to the Fever's loss to the Sun on Friday night.
"That's just part of the concentration factor. When you're not focused
on the task at hard, you're not 100 percent mentally and physically into the
game, you're going to have little things like that creep into the game, the
turnovers, the missed defensive assignments, the missed free throws, the offensive
rebounds by [San Antonio], all those things are just the focus factor that we
haven't done."
•Detroit's Bill Laimbeer discusses where the Shock went wrong in their 71-68
loss to San Antonio.
