Fever Too Hot for Sun

Indiana 81, Connecticut 74

INDIANAPOLIS, July 5 (AP) -- Tammy Sutton-Brown and Katie Douglas each scored 18 points to lead the Indianapolis Fever to an 81-74 win over the Connecticut Sun on Saturday night.

Tully Bevilaqua had 17 points as Indiana won its second straight game over the Sun this season and ended the visitors five-game win streak at Conseco Fieldhouse. Indiana (9-8), third in the Eastern Conference, made up a game on the leaders by dropping them to 13-6.

Asjha Jones scored 20 points, and Lindsay Whalen and Tamika Whitmore each had 15 points for Connecticut. Tamika Catchings and Ebony Hoffman each scored 11 for the Fever.

Jones and Whalen made baskets as the Sun opened the fourth quarter with an 8-1 run to close the deficit to 73-68 with 4:07 to play.

Both teams then struggled until Douglas drove the lane to give the Fever a 75-69 lead with 90 seconds to play and force the Sun into a fouling situation.

Catchings, Bevilaqua and Douglas made six straight free throws in the final 25 seconds.

Bevilaqua matched her career high by hitting three 3-pointers as the Fever outscored the Sun 17-6 over the game's first 3:43. She finished by making all five of her 3-pointers.
