Lending A Hand

Liberty players Kelly Schumacher, Loree Moore, Ashley Battle and Kiesha Brown took a break from practice on Thursday, June 29, to lend a hand and help ensure a safe and educational environment for local children.

As a part of the WNBA All-Star Legacy Project, the Liberty players set aside their afternoon to assist in the building of the WNBA Cares “Learn and Play Center.” The All-Star Legacy Project was the centerpiece of the WNBA’s community outreach efforts in New York, the All-Star host city.

During the project, two rooms at the Life Shelter in Chinatown, a facility which houses homeless families in the New York City area were thoroughly renovated. The renovations to Life Shelter included extensive refurbishment and a donation of books, furniture, TVs, DVD players, computers and an array of other reading materials for the hundreds of children ages 5-13 who use the facility.

The new “Learn and Play Center” was later unveiled during All-Star week.
