Sibley Memorial Hospital Game-Worn Jersey Auction

Weekly Community Involvement

Monique Currie and Andrea Gardner will stop by Plummer Elementary School in Southeast, D.C. on Friday, August 22nd to help get the school get ready for the first day of school by planting, cleaning and painting. Currie and Gardner will join Mayor Fenty and his cabinet at the event.

As part of a CareFirst Community Appearance, Washington Mystics players Laurie Koehn and Eshaya Murphy will stop by Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington on Friday, August 22nd from 4:30 - 5:30pm. Both players will be on hand to sign autographs and meet and greet with group members.

CareFirst is highlighting its commitment to youth in the Washington, D.C. area by hosting a series of basketball clinics. On August 19th, a clinic was held to benefit D.C. Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy; on August 20th, a clinic was held to benefit Girls, Inc.; and on August 21st, a clinic was held to benefit the YMCA - PhD Tour.   • The Washington Mystics will host a Discover Card Clinic on Monday, August 18th at the Verizon Center titled “Discover Card Home Court Challenge.” The WNBA and Discover Card have partnered to bring youth together for a safe and friendly competition to promote good sportsmanship and team spirit. Featured players, Alana Beard and Nikki Blue, will lead basketball drills in a friendly competition for youth groups in the Washington D.C. area, allowing participants to win a new basketball court for their hometown. The youth participating will be divided into two groups ages 9 to 11 and 12 to 14, and will be outfitted in Russell Athletic jerseys. Participants will be led in drills by Alana and Nikki to determine D.C.’s best overall average time score. The city with the best time will win a new court for their hometown provided by Spalding. This new court will feature 2 of Spalding’s 72” arena view backboards and 24 of Spalding’s NEVER FLAT basketballs. Individual Discover Card Gift Cards of $20 will also be provided for the winning age group.

    Mystics player Crystal Smith will be on hand for a community day at Sousa Middle School on Sunday, August 17th. Smith will take part in the community day festivities and greet those in attendance. She will also sign autographs and answer questions from those in attendance. The Washington Mystics are excited about the work being done in this Southeast community and are thrilled to be a participant. Families will be able to participate in fun filled activities and come together in the name of a good cause, to uplift the community.

    Be Fit, Be Smart, Be Healthy Workbook
    The Washington Mystics teamed up with the Washington Post’s Newspaper in Education program to create a workbook that kids can use to learn more about the Mystics. Inside the workbooks, kids will find a recommended book list, healthy living tips, games and much much more. Click here to download a copy of the workbook.   • Book Drive – The Washington Mystics along with the WNBA are celebrating Reading with a Read to Achieve Night on Friday, August 29th. Read to Achieve is a year-round, league-wide initiative that promotes the values of reading and on-line literacy and encourages families and adults to read regularly with young children. The program includes thousands of reading time-outs, the donation of books and literacy materials, and the creation of Reading and Learning Centers and Reading Corners throughout the world. Fans are encouraged to bring a book to be donated to Heart of America for local schools in the D.C. Metropolitan Area.

    Partner Programs

    Sibley Be Smart, Be Fit, Be Yourself is an interactive assembly that will bring Washington Mystics players into schools throughout the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area. The program is intended to positively influence young people to become physically active and to raise awareness on how being fit improves health, self image and overall well being. The Washington Mystics will serve as role models for healthy living through its “Be Smart, Be Fit, Be Yourself " Program.

    CareFirst Community 3's Program will recognize CareFirst’s commitment to the community while raising money to support Girls Incorporated. Girls Inc. is a national nonprofit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold. For every three-point shot made by a Mystics player, $100 will be donated to Girls Inc.

  • Saturday, May 17 vs. Indiana Fever, Coco Miller made a 3 point shot towards the end of the 1st quarter. By the end of the 2nd quarter Amber Jacobs scored a 3 pointer for the team.
  • Thursday, May 22 vs. New York Liberty, Alana Beard made a 3 point shot.
  • Sunday, May 25 vs. Houston Comets, Laurie Koehn had 4 three-pointers throughout the game and Alana Beard had a 3-pointer at the beginning of the 3rd quarter.
  • Tuesday, May 27 vs. Atlanta Dream, Alana Beard and Coco Miller each both had a 3-pointer.
  • Saturday, May 3 vs. L.A. Sparks, Alana Beard scored 2 three-pointers, Monique Currie had 3 three-pointers, Amber Jacobs had 1 as well as Laurie Koehn with 1 three-pointer.
  • Tuesday, June 3 vs. Phoenix Mercury, Alana was on fire with 6 three-pointers, Laurie Koehn had 2, Monique Currie had 1 three-pointer, Amber Jacobs scored 1 three-pointer and Coco Miller made a 3 point shot.
  • Friday, June 6 vs. San Antonio Silver Stars, 1 three-pointer was made by Alana Beard and Crystal Smith had 2 three-pointers.
  • Sunday, June 8 vs. Connecticut Sun, Alana Beard had 3 three-pointer, Monique Currie and Laurie Koehn each had 2 three-pointers and Coco Miller made 1 three point shot.
  • Wednesday, June 11 vs. Sacramento Monarchs, Alana Beard had 2 three-pointers, Taj McWilliams-Franklin and Nikki Blue each had 1 three-pointer.
  • Friday, June 13 vs. Chicago Sky, Alana Beard made 2 three-point shots in a row at the end of the 4th quarter.
  • Wednesday, June 18 vs. the Houston Comets, Alana Beard and Monique Currie each had 3 three-pointers. Nikki Blue finished the game with 2 three-pointers, and Coco Miller had 1 three-point shot.
