Shock HERstory
Detroit Shock 66, Connecticut Sun 50
July 8, 2003 at The Palace of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, MI

Auburn Hills– In order to end the Shock’s 2 game losing streak, six players contributed eight or more points to help in this victory of the Connecticut Sun. Detroit led at halftime by four, 38-34 before coming out in the second half and holding their opponent scoreless for more than 10 minutes. During the 21-0 run (the longest run in franchised history in which the opposing team was held scoreless) from the 15:47 mark to the 5:23 mark, Detroit opened a 63-38 lead. The Shock’s defensive effort was led by Ayana Walker’s five blocks, which tied the team record for blocks in a game. The Shock were also helped by the Sun’s dreadful 19-72 shooting from the field. It was both team’s all-stars though, that led the way. Forward Swin Cash had 13 points and seven rebounds as Deanna Nolan had eight points, seven rebounds, three assists and five steals for Detroit. Forward Nykesha Sales chipped in 15 points for the Sun.
