INDIANAPOLIS, June 9 -- Deanna Nolan and the Detroit Shock showed why they are they defending WNBA champions.

Nolan scored 17 of her 29 points in the second half as the Shock erased a 23-point deficit en route to an 83-79 victory over the Indiana Fever.

Swin Cash added 21 points, nine assists and six rebounds for the Shock, who held the Fever without a basket for the final 9:50.

Detroit trailed 41-18 with 4:41 left in the first half and 51-32 at the break. But the Shock used a zone defense to frustrate the Fever in the second half and rallied behind Nolan and Cash.

After Cash's layup pulled Detroit within 75-74 with 1:55 left, Nolan nailed a 3-pointer 34 seconds later to give the Shock the lead for good. After Tamika Catchings sank two free throws - her only points of the second half - to pull Indiana within 81-79 with 12 seconds left, Nolan made a pair from the line two seconds later to cap the scoring.

Kelly Miller had 20 points and Catchings 15 for Indiana, which had won its previous two games by double digits.
