Detroit Shock 73, Houston Comets 74

Auburn Hills – After Detroit jumped out to an early 10-point lead the Comets appeared to have taken control of the game by virtue of a 36-6 run to close the half. Houston still led by double-digits with 11 minutes left on the clock, but the Shock continued to nibble away at the lead and trailed by two, 71-69, following a Deanna Nolan three-pointer with 17.6 seconds to go.

An Astou Ndiaye-Diatta Lay-up with 4.6 seconds to go cut the Houston lead to one, but two Janeth Arcain free throws with 3.9 seconds left on the clock effectively ended the game. Arcain combined with Tina Thompson to score 52 of the Comets’ 74 points, while Ndiaye-Diatta’s 24 paced Detroit.
