Auburn Hills – Becky Hammon, Tamika Whitmore and Marina Ferragut combined to score 21 of New York’s 39 second-half points as the Liberty connected on 50.7 percent of its field goal attempts in the period to overcome a seven-point Shock lead. Detroit led 47-40 with 15:41 to go in the second, but New York was able to tie the game at 55 with under 10 minutes to play.
For the remainder of the game neither team led by more than three points until Hammon’s free throw with 0.5 seconds on the clock gave New York its final margin of victory. Dominique Canty scored 22 points to lead the Shock while Vickie Johnson (22-points, 12-rebounds) and Tari Phillips (20-points, 10 rebounds) both posted double-doubles for New York.
