Auburn Hills – The Orlando Miracle connected on 50 percent of their field goal attempts to pick up their first win of the season and send the Shock to their second straight defeat to open the 2001 WNBA season. A 13-3 run gave the Miracle a 10-point lead midway through the first period, and they pushed that lead to 11 at the break. A 19-6 run to open the second half gave Orlando a 20-point lead and the Shock never got closer than 15 points the rest of the way.
Nykesha Sales scored 19 points for the Miracle to lead all scorers and Taj McWilliams-Franklin added a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double. Deanna Nolan scored 12 points off the bench to lead the Shock.
