The Detroit Shock have been champions on and off the court. Over the years they have helped to donate thousands of dollars for breast cancer research, student-athlete scholarships and Rick Mahorn’s Black History Month Tour. They’ve collected more than 125,000 books for school libraries and helped build a house for a family that lost theirs in Hurricane Katrina.

You may not have thousands of dollars to give, but there are a lot of ways to make a difference in your community. How have you been a champion in your neighborhood? Tell us how you’ve helped make a difference in your community or in someone’s life, in an essay of 500 words or less, in the Detroit Shock/ T&C Federal Credit Union Essay Contest.

The grand-prize winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship courtesy of T&C Federal Credit Union. Second-place winners will receive tickets to a “Generation S Zone” party box at an upcoming Shock game and autographed Shock merchandise.
