SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Silver Stars open their 2008 training camp Sunday, April 20 at Antioch Sports Complex and Community Center, 314 Eross St., with 15 players, including 10 new faces. The remaining five players on the current San Antonio roster, including stars Becky Hammon, Sophia Young, Ruth Riley, Vickie Johnson and Ann Wauters, will report in May as their overseas playing commitments finish.
Players will meet with coaches around 10 a.m., Sunday, before spending 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the court. The schedule will stay the same for the entire first week of camp. Practice is open to media.
Camp marks the return of forward Erin Buescher, who suffered a season-ending knee injury last July. Buescher was the reigning Western Conference Player of the Week at the time of her injury. She is joined by veterans Shanna Crossley, Helen Darling, Kendra Wecker and Sandora Irvin.
Joining 2008 draft picks Alex Anderson, daughter of former San Antonio Spur Willie Anderson, and Texas A&M's Morenike Atunrashe are a few familiar faces to south Texas in TCU standout Adrianne Ross and Texas State's Joyce Ekworomadu.
The Stars third round draft pick from 2006, Khara Smith, returns for her second training camp with the squad as well. An AP All-American and former Conference USA Freshman of the Year, Smith averaged 17.6 points and 10.6 rebounds per game throughout her college career.
