    STORM COACH ANNE DONOVAN:

    On the game:
Third quarter was pretty horrific defensively, they were in quite a grove until we went into zone then that stopped their grove, but we just didn’t play very well in the third quarter. We need to get some help for Lauren Jackson in the post. She showed why she’s the MVP of the league. When she scores 47 points and we still can’t win the game, that’s tough to swallow.

    On Lauren Jackson:
Lauren’s our go to player, that’s why she had 28 shots, if they don’t guard her she’s probably going to have 28 shots next time. We just didn’t get it done, we didn’t have other people step up in the post.

    On Monique Currie:
Well Monique is a tough match up for us, she really posted up Betty Lennox a lot and with a big guard it’s tough to match up. I thought we did a better job on her in the second half.

    GUARD SUE BIRD:

    On being on the road:
Going one and three is not the best of road trips. We have 10 games now and we have to control our own destiny. This was a tough game maybe if we played better in our last two games I would feel different but we have to win games.

    On the defense:
I think we did great in the fourth quarter when we played zone. We did not do so well in the first and third quarter, overall we were not that sharp.

    On momentum:
If we played the way we finished the regulation it might have been different. They (Mystics) cut us down and we didn’t have a lot of time. It would have been nice to go home with a win, unfortunately that’s not going to happen.

    FORWARD LAUREN JACKSON:

    On the biggest team challenge:
Defense, I think we just struggled defensively. But we scored well on offense.

    On the game:
I’m just sad that we lost. We worked really hard and it’s a shame that we lost.

On the foul shots leading up to OT:
I was trying to focus and not think about anything. My free throws have been going down lately so it’s always hard to knock them down. We had a chance to win overtime but we could not pull it off.

    WASHINGTON HEAD COACH TREE ROLLINS:

    On the game:
We have to find a way to get inside to go inside out. It’s a win and we are still in the hunt. At about the third quarter it turned out to be a track meet. That’s the way we like to play. We played a complete game of five quarters. We never had to dig ourselves out of a hole.

    On Monique Currie:
She had a great game. She is a hard worker. She has great upper body strength. She was making her shots.

    On Alana Beard:
On a normal night she would be the star. I could tell she was sore. She didn’t say it though. She is a great leader on and off the court.

    GUARD ALANA BEARD:

On the game down the stretch:
Looking back at the game, I think it all came down to our defense. We played tremendous defense and we were the team with the attack mindset.

    On Lauren Jackson:
You can’t do anything. Sometimes players are on a roll. Lauren Jackson is one of those players that can be on that roll. She’s a tremendous player inside out. We did everything we could to stop her. She had a great game.

On her key steal from Lauren Jackson:
It was just a matter of knowing what they were doing. I knew the play and that Lauren was going to have her back turned to me. So I knew that was a chance for me to get a steal.

    On the first quarter:
That was the first time we started out like that and it was good to see. Everyone came out focused. I was very proud of the way we came out and the way we finished also.

    FORWARD NAKIA SANFORD:

    On Lauren Jackson:
She was awesome tonight. I mean, what can you do? It seemed like she hit absolutely every shot.

    On the team’s good start:
That’s something that Tree (Rollins) talks about. Getting those first 6-8 minutes and being aggressive. Sometimes we don’t come out that way and we have to catch up and fight in the fourth quarter.

    FORWARD DELISHA MILTON-JONES:

    On the game:
I think we had a collective effort. I’ve been thinking lately that I need to change my mentality on the court. I need to not wait for things to happen. Sometimes I need to be the aggressor. Being the aggressor doesn’t mean just shooting when you’re open, it means attacking the rim. That’s what I did tonight. I saw how Lauren was playing and decided to go right back at her.
