Sun General Manager Chris Sienko is here to answer your questions. Is there something about the team that you've just been dying to know? Ask Chris!

My TV9 is televising 8 games this year which is great (wish there were more). Why though are they televising home games?? I'd rather see 8 road games. I can go see them when they're home but can't when they are away. Doesn't televising home games hurt attendance??

Hello Ron - this TV business is the age old debate - showcase games from the road so all the people can see the team and follow them when they are away, versus, televising home games which ultimately, helps build your fan base as people can see the excitement in the stands, see what a great atmosphere it is and the wonderful facility we play in. Arguments can be made both ways, but the ultimate factor comes down to money (like everything). It costs us a heck-of-a-lot more to broadcast away games than it does home games. Until we are at the point where we have companies bidding to broadcast our games at their cost, we have to move at a slower pace. If you do notice the trends, however, we are adding more locally televised games each year. So this year, with a nice split, we are doing 4 and 4. But, if you are like me, you tape the game and watch it once you get back home - think of it as two victories each night!

The last couple of years the New London Day has had a pull out section about the Sun and the players. Is this something that the paper does on its own or does the team pay for it?? It would be great advertising if the team put this pull out section in other papers such as the Courant (there doesn't appear to be much advertising in the central part of the state)! Unless you go to the games or live in Southern CT you never see it. Speaking of advertising I think it would be nice if the Sun sponsored a couple of buses from the inner cities such as Hartford, Bridgeport etc. If they already do I haven't heard about them.

Ron, two questions in one mailbag? Wow! As for the pull-out sections you see in The Day, that is done at their cost. Other papers (Norwich Bulletin, New Haven Register, Hartford Courant) have done similar things in the past. However, many papers are pulling away from special sections as the cost is significant. And, unfortunately, many papers do not feel we are a force that spurs advertising dollars, which they can sell against. Now, that said, i should be clear - we get GREAT coverage from the papers, but special sections are tough for them to justify internally.

As for advertising, we are actually everywhere throughout the State - Hartford, New London, New Haven, etc. We are on TV, radio, the web, billboards and even in movie theatre's. How you have missed the advertising is beyond me, but I can assure, we are paying for it! However, if you see any local TV or newspaper sales reps driving around in any new, shiny cars, let me know ASAP!

Now Ron, as for your last point, what do you mean by 'sponsor' buses? We are on a Dattco bus that has different routes to promote the team as part of a marketing deal with them. To 'sponsor' in my opinion, means to donate. Currently, we just gave $30,000 to the fire victims of a destroyed apartment building in Norwich. We donate thousands of dollars of toys to children in need each holiday season; we cook meals for shelters around thanksgiving and our players and staff work with children year round. Inner city buses - in my opinion – are not a wise use of money when we can reach people directly in other ways.

So, Ron, I challenge you and all the readers to donate to the Connecticut Sun Foundation and we will continue to give back to the community. Here are two links:

Hi! My husband & I are thrilled to see Danielle Page on your team, but no mention of PT. Is she injured? She was one of our dear Huskers; we've been fanatics for them since '86! Thank you.

Husker fans, huh? That is ok, I am accepting of everyone! The simple answer for you is this: DP gets no PT because she is on the IL based upon the rules of the WNBA. What did i say? Danielle gets no playing time because she is on the inactive list based on the rules of the WNBA. We are only allowed to dress in game uniforms 11 players for any given game. You will notice she is not alone, as Kamisha Hairston has been on the IL as well. This does not mean they are bad players - quite the contrary. But when you look at match-ups and experience, you have to look at your bench and see what weapons may be needed in any given situation. I am sure you will see ASAP the ladies on the IL get some PT based on matchups, OK?

Hi Chris, I just wanted to ask if there is any chance we can get games on the radio again. There are some road games that are not on any TV and some of us have no way to hear the action. Many people like to listen at work or in their cars. I do find it strange that the WOLF won't carry any games since that is Mohegan Sun's station. I'm not blaming you or anyone for this but, is there any chance we'll have the Sun back on the radio at least by next year if not any this year? Thank you.

We made a decision based upon listenership and sponsorship of the radio broadcasts to go directly to the web this year. This is another difficult area that needs to be financed by the team. We do not have the fan base of other professional sports teams, or that of UConn, where stations are bidding out each other to carry our broadcasts. Like most fledgling enterprises, we pay for all the opportunities the fan has to see and/or hear us.

As for the WXLM (which is now where the WOLF was), while the station is housed here at Mohegan Sun and there is a lot of symmetry, it is not owned by Mohegan Sun. It is actually an outside corporation that owns many stations, so unfortunately - try as we did - they will not air our games.

Ultimately, what i am most happy about is you are not blaming me for anything! Wow! I have not heard that in a long time!

Kim from Woodstock, CT
How do you audition to sing the National Anthem?

Hi Kim - so you think you can sing, huh? We'll, we welcome everyone to tryout when we hold the auditions, which are usually a month or two before each season. We post an announcement on-line as well as do a press release, and talk about it on radio stations. So, if you are the next "Sun Anthem Idol", start practicing and get ready for next season!

What are the chances that the Sun's players will participate in a girls' basketball camp this summer like they did last Olympic break? I know Coach T will be away, but I was hoping that the assistant coaches would do it in his place.

Ellen, this is not known at this time. With the new CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) came new parameters about player availability, appearances and usage during that time. Throw in on top of that the opportunity for our players to get additional rest before we get into the last part of the season, our golf tournament, other community appearances and we have limited consecutive days of time remaining. That said, it is still an option. If we can pull something together and make it work, it will be well publicized.

Is there any blog or forum by/for Sun fans for which the Sun website might provide a link? This would provide a welcome opportunity for Sun fans to comment and view and respond to other fans' comments about the team and its players.

Hi Bill! There is a new fan forum on our new webpage (thanks Rachel!) that affords you an opportunity to comment about our team, other teams and the league in general. You can find that here (make sure you write nice things about me!):

I will start with saying I am not a WNBA fan, but I do respect the talent of the game. My friends however, disagree. After watching the satirical television ads throughout much of the NBA Finals, my friend claimed he could play in the WNBA. I disagreed, and spurred an argument that led to this challenge. I challenged my friend that he could not beat 6 members of the Connecticut Sun in 1 on 1 basketball. We would like to answer this question, and would like the answer to benefit the Connecticut Sun Foundation. Can we make this happen?

Well, Brian, my money is on my team. That said, we don't allow 1-on-1 games with outside persons due to insurance reasons, just like our athletes are not allowed to do anything that could jeopardize their contracts and playing for the team. While I am all for money to the foundation, you and your buddy should join a practice squad that plays against female college players - I am guessing you will lose those games too.

I think the problem that many people like yourself encounter is ego-driven - that you are male and therefore unbeatable. Can some men beat members of this team or any other women's professional team? Certainly, but it is also like saying because you are a good golfer you can go and beat any of the men on the PGA Tour or for that matter, any of the ladies on the LPGA. Professional athletes are at a far superior level than the average Joe. And even if you are above average, I am guessing the talent level needed to play is not in your skill set, or you would not be sitting around the TV saying "I bet I can beat her at 1 on 1". You would be traveling somewhere playing ball professionally. However, as said, donations are always welcome to the Foundation.
